Boot Camp, Death Note, and an All-Around Monthly News
Well, it's time for my (monthly) update again... Lol, once again I find myself lost in the online world. No, as some people seem to be concerned, I am not retired from the joys (?) of LJ. Yet. ^_^
I must offer you (again) the reason why I am not updating my journal; CSIA (our school) is upholding me with a torrent of homework, tests, quizzes, and projects (it's been one month into school life and there's already been four projects, a large number of quizzes, and other grade-related stuff). Anyway, even if I do have time to update my LJ, CSIA has kindly (...) blocked the whole livejournal website on its internet connection. Ugh. Evil people, methinks. They're blocking us from the news of the outside world... We didn't even know about the USA-Korea FTA until two days later. And they call us globalized students. Riiiight. -_-;;
Here are some news about CSIA....
As you know, CSIA is a private school - (if you guys can read Korean, it's a 국제중고등학교;;) where English is the language that rules. Lol. I mean, of course about half the students here are still more comfortable with Korean, but many others find English better.
Here's an example of our schedule. (by the way, the 100 students per grade are divided into four classes; I'm in Class 3)
6:30 - Wake up. Morning attendance. Ugh. It's very annoying, really, especially when you don't get enough sleep.
6:40 - Morning exercise. A walk or run around the school in the healthy fresh (and also very very cold, since the school is up in the frickin' mountains... Total country mode here, which I admit I like) air. Also has the effect of putting many students into sick mode, whether real or not. Doesn't matter.
6:50 - (or around that time, since it really matters on your speed) Breakfast. Too sleepy to care about the menu.
7:10 - Go back to the dorms to prepare for school. Actually, I just pack my bags for 5 min and just go to sleep.
7:40 - Go to school and wait in our homerooms for the second morning attendance.
7:50 - Our teacher comes in. Mr. Mo is the Korean teacher of the school, by the way. He talks for 20 min. straight. Funny and humorous despite the fact that he is rather strict.
8:10 - Our first class begins. It's usually English, although on some days it's Korean or Science.
(The classes are 50 min. each with 10 min. break between each of them.)
....
12:00 - Lunch. Actually has the best meal in the three-meal schedule. After eating we have free time, so I go to the library to enjoy Stephen King's or other writers' novels. (The problem is that they are all translated in Korean. -_-;; The only English books are the classics.)
1:00 - Class begins again.
.....
6:00 - The last class ends, and it's (finally) dinner time. This is the first time since our morning leave that we can enter the dormitory.
7:00 - Back to school for self-studying. Good for doing homework, group projects, or other studies you might want to do. Sleeping is allowed, although you WILL get noticed by the teacher who's directing (?) for the day.
9:00 - Snack time.
9:30 - Back to studying. You have a choice of going to the dorms to study (although you will end up playing and talking with your roomates rather than studying) or remaining in the "reading rooms" (as they are called).
11:00 - Back to the dorms. We have 15 minutes to clean up our rooms, which the dorm teachers check to see if our "sanitary"is god or not. -_-;;
11:15 - Evening Attendance. VERY annoying and long. However, it's good that I'm a girl... The boys' dorm teacher gives them punishment almost every day, ranging from 100 push-ups to running 10 laps around the school. Once they got called out 3 in the morning to do 100 pushups. Sad, really.
11:45 - Now we have 15 minutes until we can wash and do whatever we want while the light's on. Hmm. I wonder what four people can do with one bathroom in 15 minutes.
12:00 - Lights out. Actually we can always turn on a lamp because there's a "secret" plug that works until 3. The problem is that dorm teachers wander around (rather like a lion searching for prey, I must say) until 2 o' clock, and we're often too exhausted to stay awake until then.
6:30 - Time to wake up again. The lights go on on 5:00, though, so you can always wake up then and do whatever you want. Of course there's the disadvantage of less sleep.
Arrgh. I like to sleep, so whenever I go home on the weekends (by a 1 1/2 hour bus ride) I end up sleeping 10 hours a day to reinvoragte my energy.
I'm also in the Debate Club, the Drama Club (I'm the youngest so far, so I keep getting the "little sibling" treatment), and taking extra math lessons. I also go to Logic (don't ask) academy and piano academy on the weekends.
It might SOUND busy. It is. But some of the other people have busier schedules. Ugh.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is a more lenient version of a boot camp. ^_^;;
Oh yeah. About nicknames. Once again, it's that time of the year - when people are classified by their nicknames. We've had a few interesting people so far; such as Jonathan Livington Seagull (his eyebrows - or eyebrow - are connected and rather look like a seagull), Hwanhe (a famous singer who's famous for his rather, uh, expressive facial features, awarded to one of my friends (girl) who's a tomboy and a basketball god), Chicky (it was for our Korean short story response essay; one of my friends wrote it from the viewpoint of a chicken who was killed for the main character's (who was a doctor) dinner), etc.
Of course I have one too. Several, actually. One of them's B-Boy. (Breakdance-Boy) I dunno, but people say I look and act like a boy - must be a boy with hair coming up to his shoulders, then, lol - and whenever we do backward rolling (one of the P.E. tests to show off our flexibility;;) it looks like I'm doing breakdance. I'm not sure if this is a compliment or not.
One of the other is L. I mean from the Death Note. L Lawliet. I didn't even know what Death Note was before (I had heard of it, true, since it's immensely popular in Korea, but I had never taken time to read it or watch it in movie or anime form). I then bought the How-To-Read thingimagie and found out. -_-;; I'm not sure if being called L is a compliment or not... People say I am a genius (which I don't think I am.... They keep referring to my grades, though), I like sugar (I do... But most people do) my detective skill's good (there was this weird case thingie in our school; and I had done detectice and research work (?) online last autumn), and that I look alike. (?!) Noooo-- I do not want dark circles (I do now from the lack of sleep) and it's not my fault I have eyes that are bigger than normal (passed down from me mum)! (Hmm. I should say I like crouching.) Nor am I that strictly underweight.
However, they decide I am like L, and insist on calling it whenever I can. *grump* (I should mention we have found Ryuk, Light, Watari, Rem, and Misa in our school as well. They seem to have a bit of trouble finding Mello, Near, Mikami Teru, etc., though.)
And my old nickname Jonni is continued for a third season. ^^
Well, enough with nicknames. Now I must go back to my delightful and so-not energy-consuming research about euthanasia for debate and my scrumptious test-studying. Lol.
My sarcasm is getting to be a regular factor in my daily life, online and offline. -_-;;
Well, see you until later, when I can actually persuade time to slow down a bit-
-Jiyeon
And... oh yeah, school uniforms. Rather cute, actually, and seemingly like the Japanese manga thingies. I might upload a picture of it later.
