Boot Camp, Death Note, and an All-Around Monthly News

Well, it's time for my (monthly) update again... Lol, once again I find myself lost in the online world. No, as some people seem to be concerned, I am not retired from the joys (?) of LJ. Yet. ^_^

I must offer you (again) the reason why I am not updating my journal; CSIA (our school) is upholding me with a torrent of homework, tests, quizzes, and projects (it's been one month into school life and there's already been four projects, a large number of quizzes, and other grade-related stuff). Anyway, even if I do have time to update my LJ, CSIA has kindly (...) blocked the whole livejournal website on its internet connection. Ugh. Evil people, methinks. They're blocking us from the news of the outside world... We didn't even know about the USA-Korea FTA until two days later. And they call us globalized students. Riiiight. -_-;;

Here are some news about CSIA....

As you know, CSIA is a private school - (if you guys can read Korean, it's a 국제중고등학교;;) where English is the language that rules. Lol. I mean, of course about half the students here are still more comfortable with Korean, but many others find English better.

Here's an example of our schedule. (by the way, the 100 students per grade are divided into four classes; I'm in Class 3)

6:30 - Wake up. Morning attendance. Ugh. It's very annoying, really, especially when you don't get enough sleep.
6:40 - Morning exercise. A walk or run around the school in the healthy fresh (and also very very cold, since the school is up in the frickin' mountains... Total country mode here, which I admit I like) air. Also has the effect of putting many students into  sick mode, whether real or not. Doesn't matter.
6:50 - (or around that time, since it really matters on your speed) Breakfast. Too sleepy to care about the menu.
7:10 - Go back to the dorms to prepare for school. Actually, I just pack my bags for 5 min and just go to sleep.
7:40 - Go to school and wait in our homerooms for the second morning attendance.
7:50 - Our teacher comes in. Mr. Mo is the Korean teacher of the school, by the way. He talks for 20 min. straight. Funny and humorous despite the fact that he is rather strict.
8:10 - Our first class begins. It's usually English, although on some days it's Korean or Science.
(The classes are 50 min. each with 10 min. break between each of them.)
....
12:00 - Lunch. Actually has the best meal in the three-meal schedule. After eating we have free time, so I go to the library to enjoy Stephen King's or other writers' novels. (The problem is that they are all translated in Korean. -_-;; The only English books are the classics.)
1:00 - Class begins again.
.....
6:00 - The last class ends, and it's (finally) dinner time. This is the first time since our morning leave that we can enter the dormitory.
7:00 - Back to school for self-studying. Good for doing homework, group projects, or other studies you might want to do. Sleeping is allowed, although you WILL get noticed by the teacher who's directing (?) for the day.
9:00 - Snack time.
9:30 - Back to studying. You have a choice of going to the dorms to study (although you will end up playing and talking with your roomates rather than studying) or remaining in the "reading rooms" (as they are called).
11:00 - Back to the dorms. We have 15 minutes to clean up our rooms, which the dorm teachers check to see if our "sanitary"is god or not. -_-;;
11:15 - Evening Attendance. VERY annoying and long. However, it's good that I'm a girl... The boys' dorm teacher gives them punishment almost every day, ranging from 100 push-ups to running 10 laps around the school. Once they got called out 3 in the morning to do 100 pushups. Sad, really.
11:45 - Now we have 15 minutes until we can wash and do whatever we want while the light's on. Hmm. I wonder what four people can do with one bathroom in 15 minutes.
12:00 - Lights out. Actually we can always turn on a lamp because there's a "secret" plug that works until 3. The problem is that dorm teachers wander around (rather like a lion searching for prey, I must say) until 2 o' clock, and we're often too exhausted to stay awake until then.
6:30 - Time to wake up again. The lights go on on 5:00, though, so you can always wake up then and do whatever you want. Of course there's the disadvantage of less sleep.

Arrgh. I  like to sleep, so whenever I go home on the weekends (by a 1 1/2 hour bus ride) I end up sleeping 10 hours a day to reinvoragte my energy.

I'm also in the Debate Club, the Drama Club (I'm the youngest so far, so I keep getting the "little sibling" treatment), and taking extra math lessons. I also go to Logic (don't ask) academy and piano academy on the weekends.

It might SOUND busy. It is. But some of the other people have busier schedules. Ugh.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is a more lenient version of a boot camp. ^_^;;

Oh yeah. About nicknames. Once again, it's that time of the year - when people are classified by their nicknames. We've had a few interesting people so far; such as Jonathan Livington Seagull (his eyebrows - or eyebrow - are connected and rather look like a seagull), Hwanhe (a famous singer who's famous for his rather, uh, expressive facial features, awarded to one of my friends (girl) who's a tomboy and a basketball god), Chicky (it was for our Korean short story response essay; one of my friends wrote it from the viewpoint of a chicken who was killed for the main character's (who was a doctor) dinner), etc.

Of course I have one too. Several, actually. One of them's B-Boy. (Breakdance-Boy) I dunno, but people say I look and act like a boy - must be a boy with hair coming up to his shoulders, then, lol - and whenever we do backward rolling (one of the P.E. tests to show off our flexibility;;) it looks like I'm doing breakdance. I'm not sure if this is a compliment or not.

One of the other is L. I mean from the Death Note. L Lawliet. I didn't even know what Death Note was before (I had heard of it, true, since it's immensely popular in Korea, but I had never taken time to read it or watch it in movie or anime form). I then bought the How-To-Read thingimagie and found out. -_-;; I'm not sure if being called L is a compliment or not... People say I am a genius (which I don't think I am.... They keep referring to my grades, though), I like sugar (I do... But most people do) my detective skill's good (there was this weird case thingie in our school; and I had done detectice and research work (?) online last autumn), and that I look alike. (?!) Noooo-- I do not want dark circles (I do now from the lack of sleep) and it's not my fault I have eyes that are bigger than normal (passed down from me mum)! (Hmm. I should say I like crouching.) Nor am I that strictly underweight.

However, they decide I am like L, and insist on calling it whenever I can. *grump* (I should mention we have found Ryuk, Light, Watari, Rem, and Misa in our school as well. They seem to have a bit of trouble finding Mello, Near, Mikami Teru, etc., though.)

And my old nickname Jonni is continued for a third season. ^^

Well, enough with nicknames. Now I must go back to my delightful and so-not energy-consuming research about euthanasia for debate and my scrumptious test-studying. Lol.

My sarcasm is getting to be a regular factor in my daily life, online and offline. -_-;;

Well, see you until later, when I can actually persuade time to slow down a bit-

-Jiyeon

And... oh yeah, school uniforms. Rather cute, actually, and seemingly like the Japanese manga thingies. I might upload a picture of it later.

Elladan

Hello, Now.

Hmm.... I've been off for more than two months.

I should really say sorry (if there actually are still people who read my journal), but I've been a lot busy.

We've started a new school year - and yes, I am living in a dormitory and going to a private "international" school. We have tons of homework, started reading (but I already finished it) "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" by Mark Haddon, get five and a half hours of sleep each night... Well, you get the idea.

I don't know. The students in CSIA (our school) are cut off from all Internet, TV, games, etc., so we are living in a hole underground.

I think I quit LotR fanfiction for good. I AM writing Tara Duncan fanfiction though (in Korean, though;;), although I haven't gotten too far with it.

Drawings

Lol. More drawings! (Most are fanart for Tara Duncan.)

I guess I was late in updating. Again. I suppose I'll stick to monthly or three-weekly updates. Nah, I was kidding. I'm still updating whenever I can.

Well, by the look of the drawings below I guess I wasn't that busy. (+_+) But I was! Really!

(Jonathan: Oh, stop making excuses.)

I'll update a review about the movie!Eragon tomorrow. I promise.

Now, on with the show!

(Joanthan: What show?)

Oh, shut up.

And I'll update pictures of Jeju Island tomorrow as well. They've turned out-- in my opinion -- beautiful. I think.

Don't forget to  click to enlarge!

Some guy named Fabrice de Besois-Giron. ^^

An imcomplete piccie of a pegasus. I had a hard time with this one; I don't ususally draw horses. But I'm on this Amatuer Art Trade thingie  (Tara Duncan-fanart-related) online.

Bit of a bad one. Made for someone's birthday.

Made at a request from a friend.

Some Japanese anime-study, with blue ink...

Elfin Wizard. Well, he's a Half-Elf named Robin M'Angil.

This one was colored. It's a young thief/wizard (my my, what many jobs you have) named Caliban Dal Salan, called Cal for short. (Yes, all of the last names are a bit strange because they're French.) Yes, I know the arm's a bit long.

I think I uploaded this one, I'm not sure. Again, Cal.

Drawn at the request of a friend to continue the "formal" series (?). (The first one was Robin in my last post, by the way.) It's Fabris, the guy above.

Well, that's all that I have time to upload. More later.

Hope to upload sooner--

Happy (Belated) New Year!

Jiyeon wishes you a nice 2007!

(By the way, the link on the bottom of my picture is one of my empty Korean blogs. ^^)

Remember, it's the year of the Pig - and better yet, the year of the Golden Pig, which comes around not so often, which ensures your good luck and fortune! <-- Why am I starting to sound like a fortune cookie?

Sorry about the belated celebration(?), but I had to travel down to Jeju Island.

Pictures later. ^_^

Happy (belated) Holidays!

Maybe I'm a bit late in writing this post, since it's December 26th - which is Boxing Day in Canada. (I don't even celebrate it, but here you go anyway.)

Some drawings, may that comfort you as a Christmas gift I cannot give to you. (^_^)

Talking about Christmas gifts, here's what I receieved. Of course I have to now sort out everything and try to write thank you notes for everybody.

- $40 (in total)
- Six books, including:
-Tara Duncan: The Cursed Bloodline (?? That's the best I can translate from Korean. The original is in French.), Part One and Two
        - Labrynth by Katie Moss
        - Peter Pan in Scarlet
        - Gifts by Ursula K. LeGuin
        - Arthur and the Invisibles Part One (Doesn't sound so bad, despite it's been turned into a weird cartoon movie.)
- A winter coat I adore (well, that's a first. I don't usually like recieving clothes)
- Two free movie offers, including A Night at the Museum and Eragon
- Cashmere Scarf and Hat set, which I also adore, that looks like something out of Hogwarts
- A Necklace
- Two Mongolian doll decorations
- A Mongolian sand portrait (with sand from the Mongolia plains)
- Candy, Cookies, and all sorts of food

That's about it; they were receieved during various days, as early as the second week of December to late (well, not that late) as today.

In Korea nobody really makes a big deal out of Christmas, it's always the shopping malls and the donation groups that are making a big fuss, I guess, out of everything. I mean, no Christmas carols on the radio, no Christmas things in school,... It doesn't even feel like the holidays. And the vacation times. I mean, that's the worst: we rest only on Christmas, and our vacation in granted on December 28th. That is unheard of in North Carolina.

Sigh. And the tests to divide students up into classes are tomorrow. (What am I doing on the computer? I was supposed to listen to an Internet lecture..) That means, of course, I and the 99 other students that are going to our school has to study on Christmas. Now that's what I call cruel!  m(_ _)m

Anyway, I wish all of you a rather belated Christmas and happy holidays!

Eeekkk

Alright, alright. Sorry I haven't posted in more than a month.

Tests are, unfortunately, placed around the holidays. So I've been busy during November... And probably will be for the rest of December.

Sorry about my hiatus.

Have drawn a lot of pictures during free time. Will update later.

Got Photoshop! Hurrah!!

Pepero (Pocky) Day

Hee. Sorry for not updating for a looong while. I was busy preparing for exams (still have to, anyway), but I think I can update once a week now.

Anyway, most of people except those in Korea don't know about Pepero Day (November 11th). (Definition. Pepero: Korean styled Pocky's. Only they come in less flavors. But still good. XD) It was created back in ol' 1994 when a group of girls traded Peperos on November 11th (all those 11's are supposed to represent Peperos) to wish for long slim legs or something. (WHAT?! That's insane! Those chocolate snacks are supposed to gain you weight, not lose any! ... Anyway, Korean people have backward psychology. XD) Now it has been created as a marketing holiday, and a huge percent of Pepero sales are on November 11th or the surrounding week. Really, it's just a marketing schism, copied after something like Valentine's Day.

(But then, there are things such as "Black Day" (share a dish of black bean noodles - Korean food, by the way - with your friends), "White Day" (girl gives to boy of their choice), etc., etc. The funny thing is that they don't really think of Halloween and Valentine's Day as that big of a thing. =-.)

Good news: Recieved lots of Pepero-Pockies. Bad news: Devoured them the day I got them. Well, I was hungry. XD

Will update fanfiction sometime later. Am thinking of rewriting Star Hunt, wrote up to three chapters but need editing.  I made Sei (main character) a thief! Hurrah! *slaps head* I think I've gotten a lot more crazy after this.

Also discovered new fantasy series. Quite good. It's called Tara Duncan. The only problem is, it's translated in almost every language  - except English. (WHAT?! That can't be!) So I had to read it in Korean. The full title of the first book (originally written in French) is Tara Duncan Les Sortceliers. If you can read some other language in English, especially French, this is a good book to go for. Summary is basically a young girl finding out she's a wizard, but she's known it, only her grandmother forbid her to become a wizard. (Sorry for the crappy summary that only belongs to the beginning.) It's not at all like Harry Potter. Alright, it might be something like Harry Potter, but way cooler. It even has Elves. (Elves! Cool! Muhahahahahahaha!! No Hobbits and Rangers, though.)

Must go to bed now. Ciao!

-Jiyeon
